Earlier today I read a Facebook status of one of my friends. I will spare the details for privacy matters, but basically she said she got really butthurt by her certain circle of friends (at least what was she thought as friends) and she decided to leave that circle for good.
Reading that, I kinda pity her choice for leaving so easily for something that she deemed as "insulting", where in fact it's just how those friends of her showing how close they were, and it's their way of joking really, no offensive intention, but I agree with her point where she says that often sensitive things for some people are sensitive things for another.
I guess this is a lesson for us all that we might not knowing our friends well enough, especially knowing what's okay and not okay for them, because some people apparently have their own limits in things like joking. As an introvert, I really understand this. I really understand how some people—in my case, my extrovert friends—can be annoying sometimes; expressing their friendship by teasing us and pushing us to our limits when I know that actually they mean no harm. Or not. Yeah I'm not that naive to say that it's merely "a way to express friendship" but also "a way to show one's superiority in a funny fashion". But thank God I'm a very laid-back person so whenever people try to make fun of me I'd usually just roll my eyes and shrugs it off the next day (I reaaally want to counter by making a clever comeback, but I can't *sigh*). But even people like me got butthurt every now and then, and even if it doesn't last for days or results in something permanent (like my said friend about to do), it usually put me straight in a very foul mood. You know you really offend me when I suddenly fall silent, but you'll find me talking to you in the next day (faster if you apologise).
So, I got two advices for two types of person.
First of all, if you're a well-known class clown, please make note of which people that is okay to make fun of and which people that isn't. And what their limits are. Using people merely to show how funny you can be is not a good thing in the first place, so you should really really reconsider your action. Even the chillest people have a thing or two that might makes them snap. You know you're fucked up if you managed to piss off the chillest people.. And it's nothing to be proud of. Just saying.
Secondly (and lastly), this is for those who feel like you're constantly being made fun of and you're sick of it: you should know that some people was born insensitive and prone to use other people to fuel their jokes, so you shouldn't take it into account and dismiss it as another lame joke. I know it's hard and you really want to show how asshole and insenstivite they are, but rather than get mad for days—which I highly doubt will make them feel bad, because they're insensitive, remember?—you should tell 'em straight into their face instead. Better yet if you could come up with a clever comeback, which is the best way to shut these kinds of people up and makes you look 1000 times cooler.
That's all. I just feel like writing this.
